Celebrate All Year, PC Hugware
Paper Designs By Barbara is one years old! The website is only about 6 months old, but I’ve been working for a year to see if I could make it in this business. I’ve enjoyed every minute so far. I’ve had some successes, some disappointments, and tried to get my feet on the ground and running – looking for “my” direction, my perspective on where I’d fit in best. Well, the first year was a learning year. I learned a lot. This new year has brought about for me some new ideas of what I’d like to be doing.
Firstly, there are a lot of technique articles I need to get written. I put them off anticipating some Christmas presents – and since I did actually find these new items under my tree, I now need to dig down, and start reviewing them.
So, just for starters, you’ll be seeing articles on “sewing on paper”, “advanced embossing techniques”, “tips for mixing and matching patterned papers”, etc.
There are soon to be new review articles on the Cuttlebug, the Curvy Cutter, inexpensive sewing machines, glitters, and those fun new punches (pop up and fold over, to name a couple).
How will the New Year’s change you? I find a change of direction, or should I say a refinement of my direction, refreshing, invigorating, and encouraging. This will be my best year ever! I hold my faith strongly in my heart!

We’ve had several pets join our family. We love them, while they are with us, and grieve them when they pass on. They have given us protection, companionship, a shoulder to cry on, endless hours of laughter, and friendship. Our first pet was Odie (my son wanted a cat he could name Garfield, but dad is allergic, so we got a dog and named him Odie). Then we noticed that Odie needed a pet – so we got Lucky Boy, who turned out to not be lucky as he died within a week from Parvo, so we found Lucky Girl, and she’s Odie’s special friend. Then we got a rabbit, Peter, easily named. And then, many years later, we found a cat that dad is not allergic to, but this cat is definitely not Garfield, so we named her Nermal, but, as we watched the Garfield show more closely, Nermal is a boy, so her official name is Duchess Nermal! It works for us. Our pets are very much a part of our lives, we have hundreds of stories we tell about them, and we are very glad for the time with them.

I often think of the legacies I’m passing on – both intentional and accidentally. Intentionally I’m trying to pass on several things of myself that I hold dear – belief in the value of family, and the sacrifices that have to be made to successfully raise children. I want my children to know that I love them, and I want them to love their children. I would like my children to understand the value of hobbies and interests. They are a great way to ground yourself, and to find peace within your heart. They keep you from running around looking outside yourself for entertainment or enjoyment – they allow you to be happy being you.
Accidentally, I may be passing on my boistrous love of sports, and yelling at the TV. I may be passing on my less than perfect house keeping skills, and my type B personality trait – good is good enough – things don’t have to be perfect. I don’t sweat the small stuff, and that may not always be a good thing, but it is something I’m sure I’m passing along.
I wish you all a very Happy New Years – filled with joy, love, and wishes come true!!
