More Than a Little Overoptimistic

Do you think set backs should be announced with fanfare, or slowly snuck in when no one is looking? I really wanted my online Craft Boutique up and running by May 1st. Please remember, I’m doing the Web programming myself, and making the items for the boutique at the same time (not to mention my regular job and I do have a family). You would think I could be realistic, but NOOOO.

I’m so excited about the Craft Boutique, it’s going to be so much fun. We’re making some great recipe cards sets and to go along with them…..we will offer handmade walnut recipe boxes made for us in Vermont… they’re lovely!

Of course, we’ll have cards with their coordinating envelopes, sold individually, and in sets. There are two page layouts waiting, and altered art projects.

One aspect of the Boutique I’ve figured out and have all programmed in: We’re using PayPal, and we’ll have flat rate shipping of $2.95 per order. (Actually, I have successfully set that up, and tested it!) So now it’s just about filling the Boutique. But, as with most businesses, there are a lot of things one isn’t aware of – for instance: Angel Policies. Yes, it’s a difficult subject. There are a few manufacturers who won’t support the cottage industries, and won’t allow crafters to use their products to handmake items for sale, or for sale in an online Boutique. So I’m researching all of those companies, and writing some to request permission. Some manufacturers say I can create the items for sale but must include the company credits on the back of the item, and those who say I can craft the item for sale but cannot use their name in any way!!!! I’m creating a matrix now and putting it up on my bulletin board for constant reference.

Please forgive me for my delay in opening our Craft Boutique, and please forgive my overzealous original date. We are quite sure we will have the store filled with wonderful handmade projects ready for purchase by JUNE 1, 2007.

Thank you for your understanding.
